Wood mice, unique among animals, create signposts to navigate their territory. These small but agile creatures cover vast distances nightly, foraging for food while avoiding predators.

To ensure a quick escape home, they ingeniously stack shells, leaves, or twigs as markers when venturing into unfamiliar areas.

Did you know?

In the high mountains of the western US, gnarled and twisted bristlecone pine trees hide a secret: Many are thousands of years old. These ancient trees don’t appear to go through normal aging processes — at the cellular level, a 4,000 year old bristlecone is just as young and spry as a new sapling.

Some scientists even speculate they don’t age at all. Many visitors who see these trees lining hiking trails are unaware of their incredible power!

Did you know?

Sprouted from seeds taken on Apollo 14, moon trees can be found across the United States. Planted in 1975 and 1976 in honor of America's bicentennial, many died within the first year or two, uprooted by construction, injured by weather events, or otherwise toppled, parched, or infested. But a few persist, and in 2022 NASA sent one thousand seeds up with the Artemis I mission.
